What are the best vitamins and herbal supplements for building muscles and physical strength?

Question by America Da Beautiful: What are the best vitamins and herbal supplements for building muscles and physical strength?
I know these days with the busiest of schedules it is very difficult to work up to anything greater than a meager muscle. With that said not taking vitamins and herbs can be considered a fight against the workout. With the helping hand of vitamins and herbs what are the best to take for building muscles and physical strength?

Also, please don’t say that Mormons aren’t allowed to build muscles because I always get that and it seems that there is a precedent for everything in Mormon doctrine. I therefore ask this question as a human being and not from a Mormon perspective.

Taking care of your body through the proper exercise, a well-balanced diet and a stress-free mind all contribute greatly towards keeping healthy and building a good set of muscles.

Vitamins –
Additional supplementation may be necessary to reach optimal levels of antioxidants, including vitamins A, C (ascorbic acid), and E.

Aim for 1,000 mg of C, 200 to 400 mg of E, and 10,000 IU of A (best in the form of beta-carotene).

Bodybuilding requires the most protein, sometimes as much as 300 g per day, which is difficult to manage through meals alone.
(The body can only absorb about 35 g at one meal.) So bodybuilders and athletes who need to rebuild muscles after intensive training often turn to protein supplements, especially whey protein. Virtually fat-free, whey protein provides immune system support as well as essential muscle-building amino acids.

Improved performance means more energy and endurance, and that translates into a diet that provides complex carbohydrates w brown rice, whole wheat, oatmeal, unrefined flours, and fruits and vegetables. Carbohydrate supplements are available in a variety of forms, including bars, powders, and gels. For best results, consume high-carb supplements about an hour before working out.

Herbal boosters-

Siberian ginseng

One of the most popular non-herbal supplements in the athletic arena is creatine, a natural occurring amino acid produced by the kidneys and liver which is stored in the muscle cells as creatine phosphate or phosphocreatine.

Pyruvate, a metabolic compound that’s also found in red wine, cheese, and red apples, has more than 25 years of research to back up its claims as a fat burner that also creates lean muscle mass and increases endurance by as much as 20 percent.

L-glutamine. The most commonly occurring amino acid in muscle tissue is L-glutamine. Exercise increases our need for glutamine – especially heavy-resistance weight training — and supplements have been found to build muscle mass and help with loss of body fat. Dosage recommendations vary widely, so follow the directions on the product you purchase.

What Are The Best Vitamins For Women Over Forty?

Posted in best vitamins on December 12th, 2010 by Andrew – Be the first to comment

Maybe you are on the lookout for the best vitamins for women over forty. If you are particular about women’s health, then you must be aware of the fact that the nutritional needs of women change as they grow old, and going for just about any kind of vitamins in the market today would no longer do.

Women approaching middle life have plenty of issues confronting them – midlife crisis, menopausal, wrinkles, and low immunity, among them. It’s only appropriate that they consume supplements that are able to target all these issues while at the same time keep them at the peak of their health. The best vitamins for women over forty, in this case, would be those that have Vitamin E, the B Vitamins, and Vitamin C.

Why Vitamin E? Vitamin E has long been regarded as the pill for beauty. Vitamin E restores dull hair and gives the skin a healthy glow. That is why if you take time to read the labels, you will see Vitamin E as one of the components in beauty products, from hair care products down to the toes. Vitamin E is, too, a powerful antioxidant, and this probably explains why it’s been considered a beauty pill. Antioxidants fight off free radicals that damage the cells which can lead to loss of skin elasticity and wrinkling. Vitamin E is available in tablet form simply as Vitamin E, and this ideally is taken at least once a day to maintain beauty and mask the signs of ageing.

The B Vitamins, particularly Vitamin B6 and B12 would be beneficial to women over forty, too. Why, because these vitamins have very important roles in hormonal activity. Everybody knows that hormonal activities tend to be erratic at the start of the pre-menopausal period, and taking B vitamins help to calm the hormones so the impact wouldn’t be as much. During pre-menopause, a woman may experience periods that come either early or late, and the blood flow is sometimes scanty, other times excessive. There may be periods of severe menstrual pain, too. Taking B Vitamins helps to tone down these signs and symptoms, that is why for a woman over forty, B Vitamins should become an essential part of one’s lifestyle.

Vitamin C boosts one’s immunity. This isn’t exactly anything new to you anymore, yet in the midst of all the wonder supplements out there, people tend to give less importance to Vitamin C. This is a mistake because higher doses of Vitamin C are in fact necessary so one does not get sick easily.

Remember, as the body grows old, it loses its defenses, and while the process may happen gradually, still you cannot expect your body to perform in the same way it did ten or twenty years ago. So when you get colds, you don’t just take them lightly anymore; they can complicate into something worse. The point is, Vitamin C should never take a backseat, ever. It is one of the best vitamins for women over forty.

What are the best vitamins to buy to promote quicker hair growth?

Posted in best vitamins on December 4th, 2010 by Andrew – 4 Comments

Question by yay!!!: What are the best vitamins to buy to promote quicker hair growth?
I am trying to grow my hair out for my wedding next October. Generally, my hair grows very slowly. It’s a little below my chin right now and I would like to have it well past my shoulders; the sooner the better!

I’ve been told prenatal vitamins do the trick, as do multivitamins, but really, does anyone know the best way to go or the most effective brand or type of vitamin to buy?

thanks!

Answer by marie [MANIC]
prenatal vitamins definitely work.
they make your nails grow too.
and biotin is great for hair and nail growth, too.
there’s a bottle called “hair skin & nails” with biotin at walgreens/cvs.
try both at the same time for good results! :]
