Do iron supplements change the color…?

Do iron supplements change the color of the bowel movement?

My bowl movement’s color has been almost blackish.
I think it’s been like this ever since I started taking the iron pills (around 1.5 months ago), but I’m not sure if the two are associated.

yes, rion supplements will turn your feces a black color- BUT be aware that if you have any bleeding in your stomach or intestines- like an ulcer, that will also make your feces a black tarry color- to make sure you do no have a stomach bleed, stop the iron for a few days, if it doesn’t return to a normal color, then I would see the doctor- there used to be a test you could buy OTC that tested for blood in feces, but I think they all have been taken off the market

Yep they can. If you’re not taking a slow release iron try that, or you might not need as much iron as you are taking. It can actually be toxic.

Yes that’s normal. Your iron levels are probably starting to get back up now, so if your bowels are getting darker you likely can start to take less iron. Ask your doc.

That means your taking too much. Stop taking it, if your stool does not return to a "normal" color see a doctor. Black stool can be blood which might be a problem.
